In case you ever wonder why we do what we do, or if a would-be volunteer struggles with the decision to contribute, I wanted to share this note I received in the mail today from one of my NILMDTS families. It is quoted in its entirety"
"When a life is so fleeting, there is simply not enough time to discover every wonderful detail of your baby. Your photos allowed us to continue the discovery. The photo you took of Kohl Christopher's feet in our hands showed me that he had the exact same bent toe that I was born with. And this discovery was pure delight. Truly!
It meant so much to us to feel comfortable with the photographer wo joined us in the single most intimate moment of our lives. It was clear to me that you were a mother and could offer a silent understanding of our precious visit with Kohl. Thank you. Bonnie & Steve"
That's why we do it.

And we thank you! I felt the same way looking at the details of my son's hands, I never really looked at his hands in the hospital and I am SO grateful for the photos Michelle took for us. Thank you to all the awesome NILMDTS photographers!

The photographers will never know the depth/degree/I don't know what the word really is, of the gift they have given to us! What an amazing gift, one that I will be FOREVER grateful for!

Forever grateful is right Sara - nothing, and I mean nothing is more special to me than the pictures and dvd I have of Murray...I completely understand this families delight in seeing something for the first time through the pictures!! Those two days were such a blur - if not for the pictures - I may not have remembered much. Each of you photographers are a blessing...I thank you all from the depths of my heart for doing what you do....God bless you.

Deb,
What a wonderful note, thanks for sharing. Many times we don't hear from the families, and wonder if we helped them on their road to healing.

So true...After having an emergency c-section, being confined to the hospital bed with morphine for the pain I recognized that I was dazed and would not remember much of my time with my son. When the nurse asked if we wanted to have pictures taken, I didn't hesitate to say YES. The few precious moments I spent with my son were blurry and seemed like a dream until I recieved my photographs. With a clear head, I was able to see my son like it was the first time. It was also the first time I felt like a mom--I could show off my baby like all other mothers do--I had proof that he was real and he was special. The pictures are absolutely priceless and we are all so grateful for what you do.

I just received a call from my first baby's mom crying uncontrolably thanking me. I wanted to drive down there (an hour) and hug her. It was the most bittersweet feeling, knowing that I had such an impact on their lives. I was dissapointed with some of the techincal aspects of the images, and would have done things a bit differently if it hadn't been such a crazy busy time for me. So I found myself wondering if they even liked them. The call just touched my soul, and I'm so thankful that God gave me the strenght. I know I won't always hear, from families, but I am so thankful they were my first and for her call.

Our pictures that you guys take for us are PRICELESS..I did not even know about your services and was so grateful that the hospital offered it to me and now being 16 months into my loss I think back to that day and I am so thankful to have the pictures..like everyone else has said I look at them and discover something new about my sweet baby girl all the time.
