Does anyone have any connections as to where we could get molding kits at cost??? Just an idea- I have a few of Tristan's hands and feet and they are priceless... it really is amazing how much transfers, you can see everything. (These are the 3D molds not the plaster imprints)

They sell the kits at Hobby Lobby and such. The funeral home called the company direct and they shipped them the kits by the case. There is a learning curve with this stuff. Like, they figured out through trial and error that to do a foot took 6 packages. Most stores only stock 2-4. But, they figured if they put the gel in a ziplock bag and stuck her foot in it.... they had less waste because they could mold the excess up her leg. They had tried her foot in a coffee cup, a bowl ect. The bag worked the best.
The link of the company is on this website which is where my friend saw it. It is in resources. But.....we used a diffrent brand because you have to order that stuff. Maybe we could get the info to hospitals and funeral homes so they can do it and have it on hand.
I will take a photo and attach it.

Thanks for the info Sarah! I really like the tip on the bagie... less waste = less cost. The hospital did have some of this while we were there, I think they got it from the dental part (the gel) them poured the plaster in. I just don't know if L&D has as much access to this as the NICU did.
Thanks again. Take care!

Go to the home page for Now I Lay me Down to Sleep, (not the Forum link). On the right side under the 3 colored tabs go to - Resources and Links. You can find Little Finger n Toes which is a donating supplier in Denver for NILMDTS.

I work in L&D and we do castings for parents who lose their babies. Since losing our Jonathan, I understand how important this is. I can see the wrinkles and every toe and toenail, finger and fingernails. We buy our stuff at Michaels(craft store here on East Coast) in tubs. The plaster powder comes in one tub and the 3d gel in another. We use plastic hospital juice containers or disposable gladware. After the moldings set, we can cut the plastic if they dont slip out easily. I can get the measurements for powder and water if anyone is interested. We also use pinkish, tan, or brown craft paint to tint the plaster to reflect the color of the baby's skin.
A long time ago, I posted the information about a program called babyangelpics.com for anyone who has pictures not done by a professional. It is free for 2 pictures. They can work wonders... by restoring photos. I was so so comforted with the ones they did for my son. Just wanted to share again with anyone who may have recently come to this group.
