I know we have all talked and written about songs that remind us of our babies...Gentle, beautiful music...
But how about music that we listened to in our cars, when we wanted to drown out anything and everything...
There were and still are times, that, (of course when my other children aren't in the car) I blast my music. My mind seems to wander, when I am alone, and sometimes I just need the release...Do you know what I mean. I don't want to think about anything...
Here is what I listened to after the death of Maddux...
Artist: Evanescence
Album: Anywhere But Home
Year: 2004
My favorites are "Bring me back to life..." and "My Immortal"
You can click the link below to hear the samples...

"Wish you were Here" by Mark Harris. It's a beautiful song about Heaven and could be written from any of our angels to us. Some of the lyrics include.
I wanted to tell you how closely Ive kept
The memories of you in my heart
And all of the lifetimes that we've had to share
Live even though we're apart
But dont cry for me
'Cause I'm finally free
Chorus:
To run with the angles
On streets made of gold
To listen to stories of saints new and old
To worship our Maker
That's where I'll be
When you finally find me
Mother's Day Hugs,
Cheryl

a good one to get out of the funk is "Stand" Rascle Flatts
You feel like a candle in a hurricane
Just like a picture with a broken frame
Alone and helpless, like you’ve lost your fight
But you’ll be alright, you’ll be alright
‘Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you’re made of
You might bend ‘til you break
‘Cause it’s all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you’ve had enough
You get mad, you get strong
Wipe your hands, shake it off
Then you stand, then you stand
Life’s like a novel with the end ripped out
The edge of a canyon with only one way down
Take what you’re given before it’s gone
And start holdin’ on, keep holdin’ on
‘Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you’re made of
You might bend ‘til you break
‘Cause it’s all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you’ve had enough
You get mad, you get strong
Wipe your hands, shake it off
Then you stand, then you stand
Every time you get up and get back in the race
One more small piece of you starts to fall into place – yeah
‘Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you’re made of
You might bend ‘til you break
‘Cause it’s all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you’ve had enough
You get mad, you get strong
Wipe your hands, shake it off
Then you stand, then you stand
Yeah then you stand – yeah
Yeah, baby
Woo hoo, Woo hoo, Woo hoo
Then you stand – yeah, yeah

Loved that Micael W. Smith Live Forever song! These are all wonderful songs ~ It does seem that we all need the good and the more intense songs. I feel the same way. Some days I love the let him be free to walk with his maker songs ~ other days I just want to scream, I want my baby!

This is one of my favorite songs. I first heard it on the TV show "Scrubs" of all places. It's hard to believe this song is from the same guy who sang "I Come From a Land Down Under."
You can go to Amazon.com and do a search for Colin Hay to hear part of the song.
WAITING FOR MY REAL LIFE TO BEGIN
Album : "Going Somewhere"
(written by: Colin Hay / Thom Mooney)
Colin Hay
Any minute now, my ship is coming in
I'll keep checking the horizon
I'll stand on the bow, feel the waves come crashing
Come crashing down down down, on me
And you say, be still my love
Open up your heart
Let the light shine in
But don't you understand
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin
When I awoke today, suddenly nothing happened
But in my dreams, I slew the dragon
And down this beaten path, and up this cobbled lane
I'm walking in my old footsteps, once again
And you say, just be here now
Forget about the past, your mask is wearing thin
Let me throw one more dice
I know that I can win
I'm waiting for my real life to begin
Any minute now, my ship is coming in
I’ll keep checking the horizon
And I'll check my machine, there's sure to be that call
It's gonna happen soon, soon, soon
It's just that times are lean
And you say, be still my love
Open up your heart, let the light shine in
Don't you understand
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin
Another song I really like is "Are You Alright," by Lucinda Williams. I didn't mention it because it doesn't quite fit with the death of child. I heard that for the first time on the TV show "House." I really only watch 4 shows (House, Srcubs, 24, and Dr. Who), so it's strange that I heard these two songs on TV shows. You can find a link to the music here:
http://countrymusic.about.com/od/audiovideo/a/LW_RUAlright.htm
or try Amazon.com.
"Are You Alright" by Lucinda Williams
Are you all right?
All of a sudden you went away
Are you all right?
I hope you come back around someday.
Are you all right?
I haven't seen you in a real long time
Are you all right?
Could you give me some kind of sign?
Are you all right?
I looked around me and you were gone?
Are you all right?
I feel like there must be something wrong
Are you all right?
Cause it seems like you disappeared
Are you all right?
Cause I've been feeling a little scared
Are you all right?
Are you sleeping through the night?
Do you have someone to hold you tight?
Do you have someone to hang out with?
Do you have someone to hug & kiss U?
Hug & kiss U
Hug & kiss U
Are U all right?
Are you all right?
Is there something been BOTHERING you?
Are you all right?
I wish you could give me a little clue
Are you all right?
Is there something you want to say?
Are you all right?
Just tell me that you are ok
Are you all right?
Cause you took off without a word
Are you all right?
You flew away like a little bird
Are you all right?
Is there anything I can do?
Are you all right?
Cause I need to hear from U
Are you all right?
Are you sleeping through the night
Do you have someone to hold you tight?
Do you have someone to hang out with?
Do you have someone to hug & kiss you?
Hug & kiss U
Hug & kiss U
Are U all right?
Are U all right?
Are U all right?

found another good one that talks about all the things we think of on a regular basis.
kenny chesney -who you'd be today
Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
I feel you everywhere I go
I see your smile, I see your face
I hear you laughin' in the rain
Still can't believe you're gone.
It ain't fair you died too young
Like a story that had just begun
But death tore the pages all away
God knows how I miss you
All the **** that I been through
Just knowin' no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonderWho you'd be today.
Would you see the world, would you chase your dreams
Settle down with a family
I wonder what would you name your babies
Somedays the sky's so blue
I feel like I can talk to you
And I know it might sound crazy.
It ain't fair you died too young
Like a story that had just begun
But death tore the pages all away
God knows how I miss you
All the **** that I been through
Just knowin' no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonderWho you'd be today.
Today, today, today
Today, today, today.
Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
The only thing that gives me hope
Is I know I'll see you again some day
Someday, someday...

I love the new theme song on the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep website. Could we make it possible to download for a fee with proceeds to NLMDTS?
I also like Billy Joel's Lullaby.

I would be thrilled to hear the music from our contributing artists played on the radio! If these talented people give their permission, we could submit the songs donated to NILMDTS to local Christian radio stations. Our way of saying "thank you" to these talented artists for their contribution to NILMDTS. I remember this was something Cheryl and I discussed a while ago, I even have a letter to the radio stations ready.
We get a lot of emails requesting copies of Nikki's song. I think it would be wonderful to have all of the music contributed to NILMDTS on the main website.

I just spoke with Nikki, and she has agreed that it will be far easier for her, and everyone, if we make her song available. So, what I'm going to do is create a nice Web page with the song listed there for download. I'll provide the link to this over the next few days. Won't be able to do much till next week, though. I've got a TON of cooking to do for some fund raising stuff over the next couple days.

i almost forgot bout this thread but havent heard from anyone about what i need to get from maybe you Kirk or Cheryl or Sandy for an artist that is willing to allow us to use some of their music for NILMDTS? I had posted on here previously wondering what kind of forms i needed? The main song that they and I would like to use for NILMDTS is called "Watch Over My Baby" and the groups name is Quartus....the members are mostly from my area and they have been doing alot of touring and trying to get nationally known....their music is very touching and that particular song we had chosen for Kaydences funeral...it was written by one of the members for another member and his wife after the loss of their baby during pregnancy...and very beautiful....they will actually be playing here in Sioux City on August 4 and we will be trying to go to the show, they said they would like to meet Darin and I after we had emailed and told them how much that song meant to us, and they said they would be honored to have us use it for NILMDTS....anyways it would be great if i could get whatever i needed if they need to sign something? and have it by then? Thanks!
Has anyone heard the song called "Held" by Natalie Grant? it hits so close to home that sometimes i can barely stand to listen to it, and when i do listen i cant get thru the song without crying...i found it on someones page on MySpace and read an article about it somewhere and i believe the song was written by a friend of Natalie Grant for someone who lost a child and another relative all in the same day? She is a Christian artist and i've listened to some of her other songs and all are so beautiful, her voice is amazing...i know i saw the words to the song somewhere i will try to find them to post here....

Sandy,
I don't think there is any doubt that you are violating copyright laws — big time!
But what concerns me here goes beyond the personal risk you place on yourself. If this compilation is given out with NILMDTS materials, it could possibly be construed that the organization is somehow responsible for/condoning this illegal activity. Please tell me I'm missing something here!
Bill

I don't give out any NILMDTS materials. I have been doing bereavement photography long before this group came about. I joined in order to receive and share ideas with other photographers. If I am in someway violating the group I will resign and continue to do what I have been doing. I just thought this was a great place to learn but I don't want to be illegal or offend anyone. I have always given out the Cd of music. My thoughts are that if it bothers someone about copyright laws I will stand up to the consequences myself. NILMDTS is in no way involved. I only go as far as telling the parents about this site if they wish to join for support. The bereavement program in the hospital where I am also a nurse is one of the strongest in NY state. Unfortunately also one of the busiest as far as fetal and infant losses. Please let me know if what I am doing is wrong so I can make a decision to leave the group. My apologies.
Kirk Kief
10-31-2007, 11:03 PM
Please, I hope I did not offend you. I hope you understand why Copyright is important to us. We are Professional photographers, and we rely on copyright laws to protect our work, and give us the opportunity to earn a living for ourselves and our family. Without copyright laws, there would be no reason for our clients to purchase prints from us as they would be able to simply copy their proofs and all would be happy.
The last thing I would want to happen is for you to even consider resigning. I feel we can learn from you as much as you'll be able to learn from us.
Maybe the first thing you may have just learned is that we are sensitive to copyright issues. If we protect our copyrights, we then have to be sensitive and protective of others copyrights.
Does this make sense?
I hope, also, that some of the others that are reading this thread will join in.
Sandy Viola
10-31-2007, 11:10 PM
Kirk I do understand about copyright laws in my head but my heart tells me that if I am helping even one person by letting them listen to this group of songs and the songs help them ease their pain how could it be wrong? If I got up on the stand in court will the artists really fault me for trying to do good in the world. Isn't that why they wrote these songs to begin with? To help people? If you like I will just change my post to be a list of songs that I feel are good to listen to for this purpose. No mention of the CD is needed. My point was really only to share the compliation of music with the group. They can purchase the songs if they like them. Does that make it better?
Kirk Kief
10-31-2007, 11:26 PM
I couldn't agree with you more. I agree that the artists would be proud to know that their talents and skills are helping someone through a devastating time in their life. That their music is giving them comfort. Unfortunately, it is not the artixt that owns the entire copyright to the music. If we can eventually find a way to have the entire music industry available to us, that would be a marvelous day!
The specific rights, or at least I think this is correct, that we would need are what are called Synch rights. This is the actual copying of the recording and copying it to another disk. Those rights, unfortunately, are owned by the recording companies. To be honest, the recording executives are a bit tougher to deal with, than the artists.
Anyway, you don't need to adjust your original post.
Tasha Nicholls
11-01-2007, 01:18 AM
Sandy,
I agree that the artists probably wouldn't mind. However, it really is in the organization's best interest to comply with all legal laws. In addition to any possible, however remote, legal ramifications, some photographers and business associates will not have anything to do with an organization that does not adhere to the copyright laws.
I really like the idea of providing the list of songs and think that's a fantastic solution!
We're glad to have you on board!
Bill Tilton
11-01-2007, 01:38 AM
Sandy,
I would be very disappointed if you were to leave as a result of what I said about copyright. Those were my own opinions, although I was expressing what I thought were concerns of NILMDTS. So, please don't quit because of what any one of us expresses here, including me. I was concerned that this specific activity would somehow reflect on NILMDTS policy, but apparently your activity isn't tied to what we do.
I do understand your desire to be helpful or comforting to others. You probably wouldn't have chosen the profession you have if that wasn't very important to you. What I can't agree with is involuntarily forcing artists to share their work without compensation. If they want to, that's nice, but it shouldn't be mandatory on their part.
I don't really think of the recording industry execs. as the bad guys. In order to bring us the music we love, they have companies to run, advertising budgets to worry about and thousands of people to pay for the necessary services. And for all we know they may contribute heavily to charities of their choice. I'm just not comfortable taking some of their work without their approval, even if it's used for a good cause.
I do wish the recording industry would make it easier to pay for usage of music though. I would be quite happy to pay the recording companies/artists each time I wanted to include music in a slideshow or compilation. That way, we would all share the cost of charity work. But, as we all know, it's next to impossible to make that happen.

Ok I know this is off topic for the copyright issue....But that convo revised the thread in the New Posts category, and I wanted to share a song. Gary Allan wrote this song (and much of this CD) after his wife commited suicide. It was on the radio after our son was born still, and this song just means so much to me. We saw him in concert, and I was standing in the middle of the concert crying like crazy when this song came on. I'm sure many of you have that one song that makes you think of your child/takes you back to the experience, and it just means so much to you. For me, this song is it:
Life Ain't Always Beautiful by Gary Allan
Life ain't always beautiful
Sometimes it's just plain hard
Life can knock you down, it can break your heart
Life ain't always beautiful
You think you're on your way
And it's just a dead end road at the end of the day
But the struggle makes you stronger
And the changes make you wise
And happiness has it's own way of takin' it sweet time
[chorus]
No,life aint always beautiful
Tears will fall sometimes
Life aint always beautiful
But it's a beautiful ride
Life aint always beautiful
Some days I miss your smile
I get tired of walkin' all these lonely miles
And I wish for just one minute
I could see your pretty face
Guess I can dream, but life dont work that way
But the struggles makes me stronger
And the changes make me wise
And happiness has it's own way of takin' its sweet time
No, life aint always beautiful
But I know I'll be fine
Hey, life aint always beautiful
But its a beautiful ride
What a beautiful ride
