The whole time my pregnancy was going on I had this strange feeling that something was wrong with the baby (call it women's intuition). (Jazlyn was my third child) When I went to the Ob for the first time I let him know that I had this strange feeling and he listened to the heart beat and told him everything was fine. Well after 2 months of his nurse delaying my appointment with the ultrasound technicians (I needed them to set up the first appointment before I could do anything) I laid down and had my first ultrasound. After the nurse sent another nurse and then the doctor in to take a look I knew that my biggest fear was true.....something was wrong. He stated that Jazlyn's four limbs were all shorter than normal, in fact her arms and feet would just come out of her torso, she had a heart defect. Then doctor told me that I needed to have an abortion and he could go ahead and stick a needle in her heart and make her die, but if I wanted to do this I needed to tell him now before she developed anymore. I can not kill my baby....even him going into details was enough for me to want to slap him let alone his harsh condensending voice and manner.
After going for a second opinion and letting everyone know that I want to do everything possible for her, my new ob/gyn scheduled my casaeran. During that c-section, there were atleast 3 specialists and numerous nicu nurses there to help her along the way. At 4:24pm on August 22, 2006 she surprised everyone by breathing on her own. To make a long story short, after Jazlyn having to go through numerous invasive tests and numerous specialists telling us bad news after bad news, we had to make a decision to sign a DNR. Our little princess Jazlyn Hope died at 5:24pm on August 28, 2006.
She spent 6 glorious days with us when most doctors and specialists told us she won't last for one. She is definitely our little fighter, our little warrior. And I must say through all of our despair we met two angels through all of it, our lovely precious baby girl and her nicu nurse, Ms. Sharon Crook. Ms. Crook still takes care of us to this day, sending us cards and notes whenever we need them. We thank her tremendously.
