I received an e-mail from one of my clients regarding her cousin's baby late yesterday:
This afternoon Wendy & Eric were encouraged by the doctors to take Haylee of life support. She went on to heaven late this afternoon. Please remember this young couple and their four parents, grandparents, and extended family. Thanks so much for your prayers.
I sent this response:

Laura,
I am so sorry to hear of the brief time the parents and grandparents had with Haylee in this life.
There is an organization that ministers to families in this situation by providing an opportunity to have their baby photographed when death is imminent, Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep http://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/index.cfm (http://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/index.cfm)
I have had the application to be a participating photographer on my desk for weeks and I finally sent it in today due to the situation you have presented. I can't imagine the grief that is felt and I hope I can be a part of the healing for a family someday.
They are in my prayers today.
Then she sends this e-mail today:
How would the photographs work since she has already passed? You are an exceptional photographer, so I would love for them to have that opportunity. You can call me. Thanks so much for responding so quickly and mostly for your prayers.

Have any of you ever been asked to photograph the baby this long after its passing? I'm not sure if they are doing an open casket or what are the details of the what caused the baby's death.
Any thoughts?
I have just mailed my NILMDTS Application, so should I become involved in this way? I am not a close family friend, but do have a friendly relationship with my client.
Thank you !
Anne

Anne,
By all means go to the website and view some of the videos. These will give you a good perspective on this. I think Cheryl can probably give you better advice, but, if you can arrange to do the session for them, that would be so important to the family.
Obviously, the decisions need to be made very quickly, and you need to know if access to the little one is still available.
