A friend of mine went into labor at 27 weeks, she was pre-eclampsia & something else (I can't remember the name of it, but I think it was toxemia...) anyway the dr's said the little one would not make it at 27 weeks gestation. Jennie was born at 1 lb 14oz and was rushed off to the NICU, where the dr's prepared her family for the worst. After many many prayers and begging God, beautiful little Jenny is a healthy 10lb 4 month old baby girl. God must have big plans for her!!!

PRAISE GOD!

I bled through my second preg. The Dr.s told me to abort..that the "fetus" would not be viable. Aaron was born at 29 wks and we were told over and over he wouldnt make it. Aaron is now 15! He is our miracle baby. He has mild CP but doing very good. Even plays FOOTBALL!

Our last baby.... Michael was FT but had hypotonia. He could not speak and was diag. with dyspraxia/apraxia of speech. Here is his story.....it will be published this August in Guidepost's Magazine. It was written last December.

His Mysterious Ways
It is funny how God chooses to answer our prayers…. Sometimes in the most least expected ways. This time God chose a Labrador Retriever to be the one to carry out His divine plan of healing….. who would have thought……

On August 8, 2005 God gave us our precious Michael… a healthy baby boy with fiery red hair! Michael never met the “developmental guidelines” and was a bit behind on doing the things that most babies do at given points in their development. Michael learned to walk late and never really caught on to speaking. He was able to do some sign language and say a few one syllable words, like Mama, Dada, but for the most part he grunted when he wanted something, making it very difficult for us to understand what he wanted. Michael has been followed at Children’s Hospital, Washington, D.C., by Neurologist Robert T. Leshner and Geneticist, Kenneth Rosenbaum. Up until this fall, all we knew was that Michael had Hypotonia – low muscle tone. This was the etiology behind his developmental delays. This fall after much work, and lots of doctor visits, we finally got a diagnosis for Michael - Dyspraxia. Michael’s speech and language delays are a result of what is called Childhood Apraxia of Speech. The Hypotonia makes it difficult for him to form words and the Dyspraxia/Apraxia, makes it difficult for his brain to coordinate all that it needs to be put together in order to speak. We have prayed for our son many times, often when he is sleeping we would sneak in and whisper a plea for healing. Every night before we would go to bed, we asked God to please send a miracle for Michael. What we did not know, was that God was going to move on this prayer and through the love of a friendly canine!

Doug and I had thought about getting a dog many times, but the one time we tried, it was a disaster. We got the dog from an advertisement, only to discover he had never been around children and clearly did not care for them. Doug and I discussed getting a dog for the kids and he pursued this by investigating Lab Rescue. Doug sent me an email from Lab Rescue with the photo and description of our “dream dog qualities.” “Rosie” and 11 month old Chocolate Labrador Retriever was up for adoption. Rosie had experience with babies, children and cats! As an avid “cat lady” this was very important to me. We all know that dogs are used in service for the disabled and handicapped…. I wondered would it be possible for one to help our son. Would it be possible?

I contacted Lab rescue and Annie Scarweki told us all about Rosie. Both Doug and I felt drawn to this dog from the beginning. Talking to Annie made us want to meet her as soon as possible. Within a few short days we packed up the car and our 4 of our 5 children and headed up to meet Rosie in Pennsylvania. When we got there and met Rosie for the first time, I thought I would cry. She was so beautiful! She was so lively and sweet and very welcoming. She took to the kids and us just perfectly. We spent about 3 hours with her, getting to know her a bit and being sure that this was the right choice for us. That day we left with a new addition to our family. Rossalina “Rosie” Guthrie – and things have not been the same since!

Since the time Rosie has joined us, God revealed to us His plan of healing for our son Michael. It began with the words “Rosie-Pops” from Michael’s lips. We could not believe it! Saying a new word was one thing, but 2 words put together was amazing. All the way home Michael called “Rosie-Pops!” and another new word, “puppy.” A week after Rosie joined us, our speech pathologist could not believe Michael’s progress and even went so far to say, that kids with Apraxia, don’t progress like this! We spoke to someone at Apraxia-Kids.com about our experience and we were told that dogs are very good for children with Apraxia. The stimulation and the activity that the dog brings, awakens the muscles that need to work in order to bring about speech.

Rosie has been with us 3 weeks now and Michael has 10-15 new words to his vocabulary. Every day he has at least one new word. Tonight he told me “Luv-Vu”…. He told me he loved me.

Our other children are very happy with their new friend. They play outside during the day in between their school work (we home school) and they enjoy curling up with her in front of the fireplace at night before they go to sleep.
Doug has found someone to walk with and enjoys walking at night with Rosie the most. It is their special time together.

Rosie is my last “baby” and has filled that space in my heart that longed for another child. I love to get in her crate half way and just lay with her and snuggle. She is my companion and friend. The cat lady has turned dog…..
Happy endings come in many ways and the ways of the Lord are not our ways. Our son is on the road to being just like every other little boy; he is learning to talk. Tonight he told me he loved me.

Thank you Rosie for being the wiling tool in God’s hands. Thank you for inspiring us to believe that miracles can and do happen. We serve a God of miracles.

Thank you Annie and all the benefactors of Lab Rescue for making this dream come true.

Thank you God for never ceasing to amaze us.

Wow, that is just amazing. Thanks for sharing your story. It reminds us that God does answer prayers even if they are in ways we least expect them to be.
