I just heard this morning of a new study that shows that caffeine is another one of those things that we need to stay away from during pregnancy. My first thought on that was this would be an easy one to stay away from. Just don't drink coffee or tea. But, then, it dawned on me, also, that caffeine shows up in a LOT of our processed foods and drinks. I mean, A LOT! I heard this also. But, Moms if you drank coffee, tea or something else that contains caffeine and you miscarried PLEASE Do Not beat yourself up. Years ago "they" didn't know that smoking, drinking etc would harm babies. No one in their right mind would do something to harm their baby.

I'm ashamed to admit to that I smoked my entire first pregnancy!! That was 13 years ago and I was young and just little hard headed ;( . Gave up the whole nasty habit for good 8 years ago on Valentines Day.

I think in moderation you are ok with lots of things. I think us moms if we read every label and went by the book their would be lots of prego moms very crabby and hungry. Drinking diet pop can be harmful also with the nutri sweet in it. People that have Bi Polar it affects the brain and with the medication they are on is not as effective. Bi Polar also should avoid lots of caffine too. Only reason I know is I have a friend that has it and troubles with some medication.

Just from personal experience, my doctor told me that if I wanted to drink caffeine it would be just fine as long as I didn't drink a lot of it. It's funny how things are good for you one day and the next they are horrible and we need to stay away. For years women have been having babys and they have done a lot of things that to some are not a good idea while others think it's not really a big deal, it all depends on who is telling you. It's amazing how many babys come out perfect for the people that do the things they are told not to do and the ones that do everything to the book don't get a perfect baby, we have all found out through our heartache that you never know.

Marylouise,
You are so right, plus, I'm really worried now on if I should have even placed this on here. My intentions were to put this info on here merely as a heads up for those that it may help in the future.

Kirk, you were right to post it. Knowledge is power. And as Carissa said things change all the time. One day it's OK the next it's not. Better to have the info. I just didn't want Moms who have loss thier bay to feel that they did something wrong. That info was just discovered. Tommorrow it will be something else that needs to be avoided. I know when I was expecting I was told hot dogs were not good, well my husband & I were young & poor, were eating a lot of hot dogs! We did cut down, and guess what my daughters are perfect.
So Kirk, keep the info comming. Better to have the info, and then do with it what you want. I shutter every time I see a mom- to -be smoking. We now know that it does effect the baby, but years ago they didn't.
Hugs to you for caring

Kirk,
Don't think twice about posting this. I was told many moons ago when I was pregnant with my first angel that you take 3/4 of what your Mother (and other female family members) tell you and throw it out the window because things have changed so much! It's always good to have the new facts. :)
Thanks for bringing it up for future reference for others. :)
