Hello Everyone,
Here are some photos of our little boy. Gabriel had renal agenesis which meant no kidneys. We were told to expect to have mere minutes with him but we were blessed with two beautiful hours. Those hours were filled with joy, peace and yes happiness. We were expected to go full term but due to an underlying condition that we were unaware of (placenta abruption) we went into labor 7 weeks early. I remember when I was near the end of labor I was mentally preparing myself of what to expect. The doctors had given us a list of problems that Gabriel might possibly have. When Gabriel was born I noticed right away that he had a cleft lip. One of my first thoughts was that that was not on my list. Apparently a cleft lip is more common in a baby with kidney problems because the mouth and kidneys form at the same time. I just went into mother bear mode and wanted everyone to think he was as beautiful as I knew him to be. Now the more I look at his photos the more I think it makes him that much more special. Ironically the night we went into labor we were supposed to be meeting our nilmdts photographer, Trina, for coffee. She had never done a shoot of this sort before so we both just wanted to meet and talk about what might happen. Little did we know how it was all going to end that night. Trina arrived at the hospital five minutes before Gabriel's birth and was there taking snapshots for his two hours of life and several after. When I look back at the photos she took and the dvd she made I can't even remember her taking most of the pictures. She was so unobtrusive and compassionate we are forever grateful to her. The thing I remember the most is that before she left she kissed Gabriel goodbye. I was so touched by this and it seemed so fitting since other then my husband and I she was the only other person to share in Gabriel's two hours of life. I love looking at his pictures even though it brings both joy and saddness. I had a hard time selecting a few to share so I hope you will all enjoy seeing a few snapshots of our time with Gabriel.
