The last couple of weeks I have gotten myself quite sick again, I have a severe sinus infection which has caused my mouth and gums to swell and be extremely painful and my face feels like its going to explode. Doc has me on an allergy spray and an antibiotic along with a pain med that I'm not too thrilled about but using at night as im not getting any sleep otherwise. Well the last few days had been having some pretty painful menstruel like cramps and went into doc yesterday, they found a slight UTI and said if pain gets worse to call and they'll have me go to the hospital for NST and u/s and bloodwork...overnight the pain is horrible i couldnt sleep at all so after getting kids off to school we head to the L&D....well we get there, they hook me up to the machines, doc decides to give me some fluids thru iv which is probably the most painful IV i've ever had :( the bloodwork comes back ok, but on the u/s they show that baby has a little bit too much amniotic fluid right now....it measures from 5 to 25 centimeters when they measure your AFI and ours is sitting at just over 20 right now which is too much for 25 wks..they are hoping it doesnt go up much more as over 25 can cause many problems and/or be signs of birth defects....I dont know much about this condition but will be making sure they follow up and recheck it soon and whatever other testing may be needed...We are slightly worried but trying to not let it get to us...our sweet pea was very active during the u/s, she's one tough cookie we think and just need some extra prayers from everyone that hopefully this turns out to be nothing...thanks guys for any thoughts and prayers, I thank God that I have all of you to turn to I dont know what I would do otherwise!

Hi Lindzy....sounds like you are not having a good week! Urinary tract infections can be very painful and does cause cramping....It is one of the leading cause of preterm labor. I wouldn't worry too much about the polyhydramnious just yet. Tests to measure fluid are sketchy at best especially with an active baby but it is right that they should watch you more closely. Sorry about your IV being painful. I am an IV team nurse now after spending 11 years in labor and delivery. I wouldn't have hurt you :) Sending prayers and hugs your way...keep us posted.....

Lindzy,
With my son, Nykolas, my dr thought I had polyhydraminous. I had ultrasounds done and no one would tell me if I really had it or not. I just was HUGE! I delivered him at 37 weeks and measured 59 weeks!! YIKES! Yes, needless to say I was HUGE.
On a positive note, he is fine. He was a perfect baby in every way and now he's a little mama's boy and likes to torment his big brother and big sister. :)
Hugs & prayers for you,

Thanks everyone for the thoughts, prayers and words of kindness....the doc doesnt seem to be concerned with the fluid amount right now but im going to request going to a specialist just to be sure and for a second opinion to be on the safe side....Thanks to you all you keep me sane! :)

Lindzy,
I'm still praying and thinking of you daily! I pray everything is ok and that this time will pass with your family sooner than later. How many weeks are you now? Hang in there, this must be an uncomfortable time for you.

Thank you linda! im just over 25 weeks, i think im 10 behind you lol....i think im doing a really good job of keeping a positive outlook on it all even with the speculation that i might have the poly condition, im choosing to just keep the faith and prayers and not worry about it unless they really give me a reason too, we had another doc look at the u/s photos and films today and he said he didnt see any problems so im just a little upset that the tech got me worked up over something that may not even be going on...i should have also told you all that this u/s tech was horrible, she was rude, inconsiderate, she belittled my choice in doctors, she did over an hour u/s studying baby and taking films but turned the screen away and wouldnt let me watch at all, i was so upset and frustrated, i plan on reporting her just got caught up with a session we did today....i go back to the doc next thurs and im just going to request another extra u/s (with a diff tech:)) just to be safe! I wish i was in the home stretch with you! Cant wait to see that little guys pics in a few weeks! Thanks for thinking of me!

Rrrrr...that would make me so angry not being able to watch. Second, find out what the policy is there on tech's telling you "everything looks fine or not." I don't think it's legally ok for them too. I know the doctor for the most part has to be the one briefing you on the results. The tech is just there to take the pics and leave the room. I'd find out that way if she did tell you something and wasn't suppposed to then you can add that to what you report.
I hope you'll be able to get another ultrasound soon ~ still praying!

Lindzy,
A positive case story: My sister-in-law got huge with their first child, and doctors thought she had polyhydramnios, but everything turned out to be fine. He's a chatty second-grader now. I hope and pray the same is true for you and your daughter!

Just thought I'd update and let everyone know that we had the scans looked at twice and neither doc thinks we have the condition, the tech that decided it was her business to be rude and scare the dickens out of us by reading them herself when she had no business doing so is now being investigated, my doc was none to pleased when learning of the things she so blatantly had to say about him and his practice to us.....
But unfortunately we did have another scare this week and ended up at the hospital for another NST and monitoring........Tuesday morning I was very dizzy and had a little fainting spell and my legs dropped out from under me, things went fine the rest of the day but early Weds morning i woke up at 1:30 a.m. having severe cramping/contraction pains.....I monitored them for an hour and was worried because they were coming 10 min or less apart and were severe, not your normal braxton hicks....called the L&D and they had me come in, got monitored and they stopped on their own and I was home by 6 a.m. and told to rest and drink more water of course.....false labor I guess but wow did they hurt! :( I'm feeling better today but praying that doesnt happen again, we were absolutely terrified that baby was going to be coming..I imagined the worst possible scenarios in my head and was so scared....I had problems with false and pre-term labor during my first preg and was on meds and complete bedrest and dont want that to happen again.....Thank you to everyone who keeps praying and thinking of us, it is greatly appreciated!

Lindzy~ that is wonderful news that the baby looks good!!!!! Not so good news that the tech should not have told you their take on the ultrasound! Due to what you have been through is so sad that you were scared like that. Just happy everything is alright! Keep us updated!

Dear Lindzy,
I wish a subsequent pregnancy could be easy! After three twin pregnanies, I thought a singleton pregnancy could go smoothly. But no! I was also diagnosed with polyhydramnios. For ten long, hard weeks I endured twice a weekly u/s, NSTs and doctor appointments. By the last week, the fluid dropped off and all was well (thank goodness!!!!). I know from experience that it's enough to nearly put you over the edge.
Take good care of yourself. Try to find moments in the day that you can enjoy....like when the baby is most active, after an ice cream cone, and/or a nap!! Give yourself permission to enjoy. And, hang on tight for this roller coaster ride.
Please keep us posted; I'll be thinking good thoughts for you!!!!
