Well.. first of all, I have to say, that this is just amazing! I got a call from Heather (Tipton) last week, about a mom who was requesting services for her baby boy. He was diagnosed w/ Trisomy 18, and although she's due on July 1st, she wanted to make sure that someone would be able to do the session when the time comes. So, I contacted the mom, and set up a maternity session (we did the session on Sunday...) as well.
So, while I was there, she was telling me about how she contacted one of the local radio stations to get the word out about NILMDTS... YAY! :) I thought that was just the coolest thing! I've been sending out press releases as well... and also calling hospitals, leaving messages, emails, etc. But.. i haven't gotten as far as she has in even a week! How cool!?!
Well.. i got a call and email from the radio station this morning... they are doing a spot on NILMDTS at 9:30am and wanted to know if I'd be available for an interview! YAY! :) I'm so excited! (and a bit scared...) It's just fantastic! Oh.. and that mom.. she also got her hospital on board w/ our services too! Apparently one of the nurses that she talked w/ had contacted someone..but never heard back.. (not sure if it was the actual organization or just a photog though... )

So anyway.. just had to share the excitement! :) And.. gotta say... what an awesome mama! She's just amazing to me! :)

That's very exciting, but you also need to make sure that you can handle it. Do you know how many demises it typically has per year? Do you have a good group of photographers to help you do sessions, or are you the only one? You may need to recruit others in order to fully serve the hospital.

I plan on getting ahold of the nurse there this week... i am still working on recruiting photogs for the areas though. As it is... there is only a few in my network right now....

(I'm the mom who contacted the radio station and did the interview with Danielle.)

My 17 yo dd was talking to her employer yesterday, noting when her schedule needs to be flexible because of Dekar's arrival. Another co-worker overheard her and told her about NILMDTS....she said she heard about it on the radio. The lady was very impressed with what she heard about your organization and she had even called over her other daughter to listen to the program with her. :) My dd said, "That was my mom you heard!"

The day of the interview I had visited a funeral home, and the man who greeted me recognized my name and asked if I was on the radio.

I just wanted to let you know that I have heard feedback and hope to hear more. I really hope that more photographers in the area get on board--that was my main focus when contacting the radio station. But, with people getting a bug in their ear about NILMDTS, I'm sure it will have a spiral effect and volunteers will show up.
