Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Celebrates First Anniversary
Denver, Colorado—April 21st, 2006 – Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS), a non-profit organization that exists to assist families suffering an early infant loss, celebrated its first anniversary on April 8, 2006. Since its inception, the organization has grown from one photographer in Denver to nearly 800 photographers in the US as well as several internationally.
NILMDTS was founded due a collaboration between Cheryl Haggard, a mother who lost her son Maddux after only six days, and Sandy Puc’, the portrait artist who photographed the beautiful images of Maddux and his parents. The Haggard family came to believe that the portrait and DVD Puc’ gave them were instrumental in their healing process. This realization spurred Haggard into action, urging Puc’ to consider providing this service to other grieving families.
Parents of terminally ill or stillborn babies who contact NILMDTS are put in touch with a photographer who comes to their hospital location and conducts a low-key portrait session. Parents are provided with a CD file of their cherished baby images. If requested, a DVD is put to music that memorializes the tiny life. There are no fees for this service.
In addition to the portrait images, NILMDTS also serves as a support source for parents seeking information while experiencing the death of a baby. NILMDTS-affiliated photographers receive free education in bereavement photography and are part of an online community via the website. NILMDTS has plans to widen their scope to include hospice photography for children age 18 and younger.
Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization.
