I am 18 weeks pregnant and tomorrow we go in for surgery on our little guy. Last week at my level II ultrasound he was diagnosed with Posterior Urethral Valve Syndome. This surgery will hopefully allow him to grow and develop over the next 22 weeks until he is due. This condition causes a blockage in the urethras, which causes urine to build up in his bladder and not allow for him to create amniotic fluid. We pray that this surgery will be a success and the damage to his kidneys is minimal. Some of the tests have been VERY frustrating and the results on his kidney function has not been the greatest, actually the doctor said some of the results were above the threshold to qualify for surgery, but that he was still going to do the surgery. We just cannot believe we are reliving a nightmare and pray that our little guy is ok.

Please keep our little man in your thoughs tomorrow as we need as many well wishes as possible.

Prayers with you as you both undergo such a scary ordeal. I am so glad we live in a place where they are able to diagnose and treat such complications. Prayers for little Ethan will be many tommorrow... and as you both recover.

Mandy,
Lots of prayers coming your way. I also talked to my friend Wendy, who does some work with your mom...If anybody can get things going and pray hard, it is Wendy...
Please let us know how things went...
I would tell you to breath easy...but I can't. I can imagine that you are a bundle of nerves. I pray that you have peace and calm tonight and tomorrow, with a blessed outcome...

Wanted to give everyone an update...

The surgery was successful today in placing a shunt into our baby's bladder. It was VERY scary during the procedure, which I was awake for. Baby's heart rate dropped to the mid 50s during the procedure, but then went back to a faint 120. We had another ultrasound later today which showed a strong heart rate at 164. We just now have to hope and pray the next 4+ months go well, he is able to make it full term, the shunt stays in place and that his kidneys will be ok. Thank you for all of your well wishes, they definitly helped!

I am 18 weeks pregnant and tomorrow we go in for surgery on our little guy.
That's about how far along I was when I had an emergency appendectomy. Not nearly as serious as your surgery, but since there was a chance Emma wouldn't survive, and being awake proved too painful, I was grateful that they had me hooked up to a monitor that broadcast her heartbeat. That blessed sound was the first thing I was aware of when I came out of the anesthesia.

I'm glad you made it through this stage, and will hope for continued good news.

Nancy

(Emma is now 18, and headed off to college in a couple of days)

Lacey,

Unfortunately, despite all of our prayers, little Ethan was born still on August 25th following his fetal surgery. I believe this was due to a complication. His mommy let us know in another post, I believe it was called, "Please pray for us". Please continue to pray for his family.
