Hi!
I finally got th results from my AFP test back, and everything looked completely normal. I was so worried because I was supposed to have the results back a week ago. I guess they were late due to the high wind storms we had here courtesy of the latest hurricane (Ike?).
I also go in today to hear baby's heartbeat. It's a courtesy visit, I guess because I freaked out over the weekend, and thought maybe if I heard the heartbeat it would help me feel better. I just became convinced there was something wrong.
I'm thinking about going to a pregnancy spa to have an ultrasound. Have any of you done this? What do you all think? My doctor probably wont schedule me for an US for about 5 more weeks, and it's driving me crazy. I want to find out if it's a boy, like my daughter insists! I want to see my baby again! I know I'm overreacting and torturing myself with my worry, but can't seem to stop...I was feeling really positive last week, and then just crashed on the weekend. Ergh!!

Beth . . .
A pregnancy spa? I wish they had those way back when I was pregnant . . . it sounds very inviting . . . and you get to have an ultrasound there? Cool!
I'm assuming that the tech is a REAL tech for that proceedure so what the heck!
Do you have one in your area that you know about? You could call them and ask if there are other mom's (clients of theirs) that you could talk to and see what they thought about it . . .
I don't know if you are over-reacting or just acting normal considering the circumstances . . . don't beat yourself up over that . . . you want some reassurance and that sounds normal to me!

Beth that sounds great, im so glad the results were good for baby!
and you should definately look into doing the 3/4d u/s later on, it was well worth the money we paid for it and such precious memories! they say the best time for it is between 28-32 weeks.
what exactly do they do at this preg spa?

I am glad everything is going great. I am surprised you haven't found out the gender yet I found out at 18 weeks and last time at 20 weeks. I guess it depends on the doctor. I want to go get a prenatal massage it sounds so relaxing. We are still praying for ya.

The pregnancy spa does a couple of different ultrasounds - either 2d or 3/4d. They also do various massages for before (trying), during, and after pregnancy, and the regular list of spa stuff - manicure, pedicure, facials, waxing, etc. I'm thinking about the waxing for when it gets to hard to reach my legs, ha! Usually I just let myself go hairy unless Reju helps me.
Anyway I have $100 in spa gift certificates that can be used there (among other places), so I figured I could get a couple of minor things, or the 2d ultrasound which is just to find out baby's sex; that one is $89, and the 3/4d is $149-199 depending on the package you want. And the techs are medically trained - they said they'll even send a diagnostic report to your physician.
My doc is waiting so long to do the "big" US scan because he wants to make sure the baby is at a point where they can catch just about anything wrong. And my 4-week appointments fall at 20 weeks and 24 weeks. So I'm going to talk him into 23 since I'm going to be in Arizona the 1-8th of November when I'd hit 24 weeks. I just can't wait to find out little baby's sex!
OF COURSE we heard the heartbeat today when I went into the doctor, and everything is perfect with that. I feel a bit silly for overreacting, but I had just convinced myself something was wrong...we all know how that could happen, I suppose.
Anyway, I'm going to look into the US a bit more, or else do a massage and pedicure in a couple more weeks.

We went to a place kinda like that at 15 weeks with my daughter to find out the sex because I was to anxious and it was well worth it! As far as your baby's tests I am so glad they came back negative! We have our AFP in like 2 weeks and Im a little nervous about it! Congrats on your good news and if you are that anxious about it I say go get the u/s!

Beth,
I'm so happy to hear that the afp came back normal. It is completely normal for you to feel nervous from time to time. I wish we had a pregnancy spa here..I would have been all over that! :p I did go to a privately owned boutique ultrasound studio with both of my boys for 4d ultrasounds.

Beth,
I think your reactions are perfectly normal. I would be feeling the exact same way if I were in your shoes. But I so glad to hear everything is going well for the two of you. I did the 3d ultrasound with my third child - my first daughter and it was amazing. Expensive but amazing! It was so reassuring to see her face.
Anyways, I can't wait to hear what the gender of this baby is.
