Hi everybody. I am so scared right now. About a month ago my youngest daughter Mackenna threw up very out of the blue the morning of my little cousin's cancer benefit party and couldn't go. We thought it was something she ate. Then, the 19th, we took my Campfire kids to Build a Bear to celebrate having a great first year of Campfire (they're in Kindergarten). On the way home, she threw up again, very forcefully. Again figured it was something she ate, as she was fine immediately after. I had actually forgotten about the other time already, because it was so nothing afterwards. Well, this morning she is doing it again, 11 days after the last time (there were 13 days between the last two). This time though, she didn't even eat before she did it and had painful dry heaves. I had noticed she wasn't looking like she felt good this morning, she was kind of grumpy and not wanting to play, and her lips looked a little greyish. After she vomited her color came back some, but she's still just laying on the couch next to me and kind of talking to herself watching TV. I asked her if she felt better and she said yeah. I'm taking her to the doctor in a couple hours, as soon as my mom can get here to help me with the other kids. I am SO scared that something is seriously wrong with her. We don't have insurance anymore, my husband got out of the Navy less than 3 months ago and we lost all our insurance. I am extra paranoid because of my cousin who went from not feeling good one day to Stage IV cancer the next. It cost them $18K for her first 3 days in the hospital, just for her testing.

PLEASE pray for Mackenna that it's nothing and just a little "kid-bug" or something. I might lose my mind if another of my babies gets sick.

(I just realized I made it sound like the money is the reason I'm the most concerned. Of course that's not the reason, although that does worry me also)

Jen-

I am praying for you, and COMPLETELY understand. My son (age 5) is currently in a wheelchair due to an injury, and yesterday was been diagnosed with a severe lung infection and is inches away from the hospital admitting area... I keep telling myself, "everything will be o.k." over and over again - it's my new mantra! He's just testing us. (Yes - the self employment and health insurance is an issue in this country, isn't it? I think Canada can teach us a lesson or two in this area. I understand your fears.)

Hope everything turns out, let us know. We are praying for you.

Sandra

Thanks everybody. Just got home. All they could tell us is it's NOT a urinary tract infection and she doesn't have any abdominal masses and it's not her appendix. He told me that for today that's all he wants to worry about and if she isn't better in a few days to bring her back. Yeah, cost me $90 just to be seen and that was just the deposit, they're going to bill me for the rest (not sure how much "the rest" is). I suppose the peace of mind is worth it, though she has vomited a total of 8 times today, and he told me not to feed her solids. Yeah right- if I don't she has dry heaves! Not a chance I'm making her keep an empty belly when she's begging me for food. I am letting her eat in small amounts and if it comes up, at least she has something to bring up. Anyway- hopefully it will continue to be nothing. She does seem to feel a little better this evening. She actually leaned over to vomit earlier and fell asleep before she even made it over the can. Later she got upset because I left her (nearly asleep) on the couch with my mom to take the other 2 to school, and she got up and tried to chase me and nearly passed out when she stood up. I don't trust doctors much when they tell me it's nothing. I will give it a day or two and then I'm going for a 2nd opinion if she doesn't get better soon....

So sorry to know your little one is sick. Please know I'm thinking of you guys, and hope she gets better soon.
Doesn't seem like the doc gave you much to go on... that's always frustrating. I agree, a second opinion may be needed if her condition dosen't improve. Keep us posted.

Jen-Of course my thoughts and prayers are with your family. There is a wicked stomach virus going around. My fingers are crossed, this it is as simple as that.

I too, know the self employment and insurance nightmare!!!

Thanks. I'm afraid to put her in her bed just yet, she's still awfully lethargic but insisting she's not sleepy. She had a few good hours of normal playfulness this evening but slept probably 70% of the day today and just crawled back on the couch in "her spot" and is just laying there. I feel very helpless. I'm glad she's not in pain but I really don't think this doc knows what the heck he's talking about.

Just my opinion, but I think you should get a second opinion, if it is your means... Please keep us posted!

She is about 95% back to normal today, so I am going to watch her close the next few weeks and if she has another "episode" we're going to ER. I'd rather be overly paranoid than "wishing we'd done more when we had a bad feeling". Know what I mean?

Jen,
Just catching up and saw this, how's your baby girl doing now? I am so apprehensive when I read these, I get butterflies in my stomach, please tell me she's ok and it was just a stomach virus.

Jen,
I am sorry I didnt read the posts earlier. I just read them today. I really hope your little one is doing better. I have insurance and I still refuse to go to the ER in the middle of the night just because it costs $100 and I think i should wait anything out until morning and it will only cost $15 at the doctor. It is really bad that we live in a society that charges us money to be okay. We are driven by that.
I know its only $100 and thats not too much but we dont have a lot of money and i just feel if I cant wait something out then I should.

Well, I really pray that your sweet girl is doing much better. YOu are truely a great mom.
