Hello everyone,

I know it has been awhile since I have posted, I have kind of been in the background reading post and replying to a few. I haven't been well lately, having problems with my kidneys, think it may be another kidney stone, will have a CT scan next week to see what is going on.

Anyways, I am not worried about me, but my son Bryce. Bryce is 6 yrs old and has had recurrent nose bleeds for the past 3 yrs, which has progressively gotten worse the past 3 months, getting more frequent and harder to stop each time. A couple of weeks ago his dad couldn't get one to stop so they took him to the ER, the ER did some lab work and found that his PT/INR levels were elevated, if anyone is a nurse or Dr. then you know what I am talking about, anyways that raised some concerns, the Dr recommended getting some other tests ran to check for bleeding disorders. At the time I wasn't to freaked out about it but this week he has been to the Dr three times. Last week the Ear, nose, and throat specialist cauterized some vessels in his nose which he said should get rid of the nose bleeds, since then he has had 4 nosebleeds. On Monday his primary Dr said we should run all the test to rule out anything, today he went back to the Dr and in four days he has lost 7 lbs. I am not exactly sure why he has lost so much and I am hoping they find some answers. The Dr. has now put him on Pediasure to try and help keep his weight up. Tomorrow he will go in the morning for extensive blood tests. By next week we should have some answers, in the mean time I am a complete wreck, I have been praying a lot and ask for prayers for him. Also on top of that I am getting closer to Emma's 1st year, one thing after another. God Bless everyone and I pray for everyone here even if I don't always have a chance to respond to everyone. Have a great weekend!!

You and your son are both in my prayers- hoping that they find the answer to his problems and that it is an easy fix with very little complications. Take care.

Ty everyone for your prayers. This morning I took Bryce to the Lab to get all of his blood drawn (8 vials of blood), he was such a brave little guy, didn't even cry and I think I was more nervous than he was. He is trying to be brave through it all but he is very tired. As soon as I hear something back I will keep you guys posted, again thanks for all your prayers.

God Bless You....I hope your son is doing better.....I am a nurse and I know exactly what you are talking about the PT/INR....alot of older folks that are Coumadin (blood thinner medication) have to have PT (prothrombin time) test evaluates the ability of the blood to clot properly ...INR is used to monitor the effectiveness of blood thinning drugs such as Coumadin (Warfarin)....and that is how the dr knows to adjust their dose.....As a child and into my teen years I suffered from horrible nose bleeds....I would wake up in the middle of the night gagging on my blood...I would fill dish towles up one right after another....My dad would always take me to the ER and would sit up all night with me, I would receive the Vitamin K injection to help me clot...Then daddy would go to work in the coal mines all day without sleep.......My condition has stayed with me all my life and have had several complications especially during my pregnancies or any surgeries....but I am still here and happy......I pray to God He is healing your son......The pedisure is excellent for him since he is losing weight and I hope you find out all your answers soon....God Bless You and Your Son!

Brandy,

Thinking of you and Bryce during this difficult time. I hope that all his blood work comes out good and whatever is causing all his symptoms will just simply go away for good and leave him strong and healthy. Thinking of your sweet angel Emma during this difficult time as well. Hang in there.

Love,

Just and update on Bryce-- all of the test results are still not in they had to send two of the "special" tests to California, the nurse said she was hoping all the test would be in by tomorrow (but you know how the Dr's office can be,) anyways as soon as the Dr. gets all the test in he will sit down and go over everything and hopefully (fingers crossed) next week we will have some answers. In the meantime, he has lost another 1/2 pound which is definately better than the 7 pounds from the previous week. I continue to push the Pediasure in him, (he thinks its a special treat) anything though to keep him drinking them, and by the smell, I wouldn't touch them. Thanks for all the prayers, I appreciate it so much.

As for me, I had a CT scan done on Tuesday of my kidneys. I went to the Dr today and he showed me the scans. I have two kidney stones, he said the stones were small, not big enough to remove and that they should pass, (easier said then done). I also have a cyst on my kidney he doesn't think all the pain is coming from that. I also have a cyst on my right ovary. He said I would have ab. pain with that though. I go in the next week where they will do a Cysto with dye of my bladder, ureters, and kidneys to check for any blockages the Ct may have missed, they will also check for narrowing of any tubes that may be causing the pain. If they do find something they said they would handle it as they see necessary in order for me to stop all this pain.

Thanks again for everything ladies, I wish you guys knew just how much it means to me.

Love,

Brandy

I was wondering where you were Brandy! I have been thinking about you a lot this last week or so since Emma's birthday is coming up soon. I am sorry to hear of all these things going on. I am glad Bryce is doing a tiny bit better.

I hope that you can get plenty of rest and try to take of yourself and take it easy. Always thinking of you and your family! *hugs*

The tests that I have been waiting for are in. THEY ALL CAME BACK OK!!!!!! I am so relieved. The power of prayer. Thank you all so much for the prayers they are so much appreciated and it looks like they are working.

The next step: He will be seeing his EENT again this coming week to see about having a surgery to go in and cauterize all of the vessels in his right nostril. Although I do not want him to go under, the Dr seems to think that is the thing we should do to help his nose bleeds. His pediatrician also wants to keep a close eye on his weight so we will go in for weekly weights until his weight starts getting better.

Thanks for the suggestion Melanie about the Carnation Instant Breakfast I will definately give that a try and from what I remember they do taste pretty good.

Again thank you all so much for the prayers.

HI hunny, I read your first post a few days ago but couldn't respond. I've been praying for you and your son -- I'm a nurse too, so I know all of the horrible possibilities that were lurking in your mind. Thank God for the good results! I'm so relieved for you!
