Do you have a special rose or another sturdy flower that you would like to perfectly preserve forever? Here is how:

You will need as many of those little packets of silicate pellets as you can get -- these come in new shoeboxes (you know, those little white packets that you normally throw away???). I usually use at LEAST three. You can keep reusing them over and over! I have found them all over the floor of the Walmart shoe department and have asked for permission to take them. NO one has ever refused to give them to me. I have also seen them in the floral department.

Empty them into a tupperware bowl that has a lid (or any good air tight bowl), put the flower in, put the lid on tight, and leave them alone for about two weeks.

For the first few days, you will see the moisture literally get sucked up out of the flower and bead up on the lid of the bowl. When this happens I usually take the lid off and wipe the water off. Then any moisture will just disappear. After a few weeks the rose or other flower will be perfectly preserved! Just make sure you keep it away from water. I have also coated the flower in an art coating like Modge Podge.

I am experimenting on making jewelry out of the flowers by covering them in lacquer in a mold, and making a pendant out of them. We'll see how that goes!

Thanks for the idea! Ben's flowers have been dried a long time ago, but maybe I can get a special one and do this with it.
